• Reporting to the Engineering Manager-APAC, you will stay aligned with Austin Engineering policies, ensuring compliance with Austin Engineering Group Risk Management, Quality Assurance and Health, Safety and Environment management systems, including statutory obligations.
• Engage with clients to understand their technical requirements, challenges, and business objectives related to bucket and tray designs for material handling applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative engineering solutions for bucket and tray designs, considering factors such as material properties, load capacity, and structural integrity.
• Conduct thorough mine site visits to assess material handling processes, identify opportunities for optimization, and provide on-site technical support for bucket and tray installations and performance evaluations.
• Utilize advanced 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or Creo to develop detailed designs and simulations for buckets, trays, and associated components, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
• Understand capacity calculations to validate design specifications and ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations.
• Act as a subject matter expert in material handling systems, providing guidance on best practices, equipment selection, and maintenance procedures to clients and internal teams.
• Lead technical discussions and presentations on bucket and tray designs, highlighting key features, performance metrics, and potential improvements.
• Provide hands-on support during product installations, commissioning, and testing phases, collaborating with field engineers and clients to resolve any issues or concerns.
• Collaborate with sales teams to develop proposals, estimates, and project plans for material handling solutions, incorporating detailed design specifications and cost analysis.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration. Enthusiastically breakdown existing silo mentalities held by Business Unit leaders and drive a “One Austin” culture and mindset.
• Create and foster a customer service culture cross functionally so that all stakeholders and functions collaborate to be responsive, outcome focused and adding value across the group.
• Work closely with Global Manager Market Development & Innovation on sales initiatives, targets and plans.
• Work collaboratively with Global Manager Market Development and Innovation and Global Manager Operations to understand markets and market drivers for key customers and industry sources.

Qualifications

• Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Member of Engineers Australia (CP Engineer preferred)
• Minimum 7 years experience in engineering roles with a focus on customer solutions and project management.
• Proven track record of successful mine site visits and hands-on experience in industrial environments.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or Creo is essential.

• Experience in Container/Flat Rack /Break-bulk
• Ideally working within a global freight forwarder
• Experience Dealing direct with Ocean carriers
• Experience with Duty/Customs/Taxes for importing into North America/South America Africa and Australia
• Strong knowledge of international trade regulations and customs procedures.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, ever-changing global business environment.

• Ensure all quote estimates are based on up-to-date input costs for labour, steel, and other miscellaneous materials and subcontract services.
• Ensure all quotes and estimations are recorded in required systems
• Discuss appropriate margin levels with the General Manager when creating estimates and quotations for customers
• Collaborate with Sales staff to develop new and innovative ways to improve estimating accuracy and improve the time in completing quotes to customers
• Maintain an up-to-date register of all sales enquiries, quotes and estimate calculations
• Check quotations for any possible errors, ensuring adherence to company policies with regard to cost structures and margin levels
• Keep abreast of price movements in the market, in particular with regard to steel increases.
• Assist and liaise with the Operations & Sales team in Batam and East Coast Australia for all new product opportunities delivered out of Batam, to West Australia
• Be involved in regular meetings, formal and informal with internal departments to ensure quotes are handled in a timely manner
• Relay all pertinent customer information to relevant internal departments in a timely manner to ensure any order variations or quotation scope changes are captured in the system
• Work closely with internal departments to ensure customers are well informed at the time of quotation of the engineering and build lead times
• Regular weekly / monthly planning of customer visits and follow up calls

Qualifications & experience

• 10 years sales experience, preferably in the mobile mining equipment industry
• Technical or trade background would be beneficial;
• Leadership skills – team management, dynamics and change management with an ability to coach and mentor individuals.
• Experience with Microsoft Office software programs essential;
• Experience with CRM systems
• Must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and provide exemplary customer service.

Main duties 

• Ensure achievement of business performance against budget, by providing accurate job estimating/quoting
• Liaise with internal and external customers to formulate estimates, make changes and adjustments to estimates
• Timely preparation of tender documentation in compliance with the customers “Invitation to Tender process”
• Review scopes of work, drawings, specifications, and other technical documents to ensure proposals are complete and accurate.
• Accurately assess the type of tender, client, and closing date of tender to determine prioritization of all tenders per tender guidelines.
• Maintain and update Estimating standards, templates, and structures.
• Provide suggestions for improvements to estimating approach.
• Follow up suppliers to make sure that materials have been received per specification.
• Review completed jobs against estimates to inform future estimating work

• Trade qualified (Cert III in Engineering–Boilermaker)
• Post trade experience in heavy fabrication and heavy repair
• Experience in FCAW
• A keen eye for detail, a strong commitment to quality and pride in your work
• Be able to pass a medical which includes drug and alcohol testing
• Must have the right to work in Australia.
• Working at heights, forklift, overhead gantry, and dogging tickets is highly regarded
